Franz Kafka was a German-language writer of novels and short stories.
Kafka was born on July 3, 1883,Prague in a German speaking middle-class Jewish family.

He trained as a lawyer and, after completing his legal education, obtained employment with an insurance company. He began to write short stories in his spare time.

He began his first novel project in 1912;its first chapter is the story “Der Heizer” (“The Stoker”)

Only a few of Kafka’s works were published during his lifetime: the story collections Betrachtung (Contemplation) and Ein Landarzt (A Country Doctor), and individual stories (such as “Die Verwandlung”) in literary magazines

In 1923, he moved to Berlin to focus on writing, but died of tuberculosis shortly after. His friend Max Brod published most of his work posthumously, such as Amerika and The Castle.

Notable works:
“Die Verwandlung” (“The Metamorphosis”)
Der Process (The Trial)
“Das Urteil” (“The Judgement”)
Das Schloss (The Castle)
Betrachtung (Contemplation)
Ein Hungerk√ľnstler (A Hunger Artist)
Briefe an Felice (Letters to Felice)

A book must be the ax for the frozen sea within us.
